Scott and I are weird folk. As was mentioned in the sermon at our wedding, our quirkiness is one of things that brought us together. Here's a look at some of our favorites that we referenced in 2016:
When You Want to Experience Nature While Sitting on the Couch
Neature Walk
Year: 2009
For many people, 2009 was a year that could be described the same way as 2016: the worst. Think: financial crisis of 2008, high oil prices, and that writers' strike that stuck a huge wrench in shows like The Office, Friday Night Lights, and the beloved Hannah Montana.
Enter Lenny Pepperbottom and Rodney to brighten everyones day. "That's pretty neat!"
When You Want to Know How the Kids These Days Are Greeting Each Other
Suh Dude
Year: 2016
Think of this as 2016's "Wazzup". Dude suh.
When You Are Trying to Save Your Family From Being Eaten
Troll 2
Year: 1990
This is a cult classic (the weirdest movies always are). Scott and I are deliberating over taking a page out of This Is Us's book and watching this (instead of Police Academy) every Thanksgiving as our family grows.
You can hear us talking about tightening our belts by one loop to stop the hunger pains.
Something You Can Lovingly Sing To Your Desk Chair At Work
I Sit On You
Year: 2007
No list of "weird things" is complete without Tim and Eric. Mindy Kahling said on the li.st app that Tim and Eric is something girls pretend to be into to try and impress boys. Pre-marriage, I agreed with her. Post-marriage, just because I reference this video to Scott does not mean that I enjoy Tim and Eric.
When You Need A New Way to Express Your Feelings Of Affection
I Luh Ya Papi
Year: 2014
If you ask Scott, "What is Jennifer Lopez's most popular music video?", he will probably respond with, "I Luh Ya Papi". For some reason, this song gets stuck in our heads frequently.
Disclaimer: Men in speedos and apparently there are some explicit words according to the title. You can watch 2:17-2:24 to understand the heart behind it with minimal flesh-exposure.
When You Want to Play With Your Food
Jelly Belly Pet Rat Gummi Candy
Year: 2014
I can't even explain to you this video. Even I get weirded out by the end. But you may find Scott and I saying vowels completely wrong in random words as homage to this very strange video.
Here's to a weird 2017 filled with more strangeness.
